The Lorax.

Clearing started today!  It's so exciting to actually have something to see (other than applications, deeds, permits, etc., etc.)!!  The first picture is this morning when the guys were just starting and the 2nd and 3rd are this afternoon and evening.  It's reported by their Mama that my babies were playing The Lorax and The Onceler - I love that!  Although it's somewhat sad to lose a few trees, we're going to be able to save alot...and I really love that the kids are finding enjoyment in the property already.

I was wondering what the light would be like, sitting in the middle of the woods - but there's alot!  Yay!  And it smells so amazing with the fresh-cut wood...I'm super excited we've started!

Oh, and one more thing: I've been keeping one of my dear friends at arm's length and not allowing her to come to the property because she is hyper-sensitive to poison ivy and it was covering the place.  So we thought.  Turns out it was wild raspberries!

Plans.

And, for those of you who are architecturally-minded...the plans!  We found a plan that we liked and then proceeded to customize it so it will be the perfect house for me.  Can't wait until it jumps from the paper to reality!

The Beginning (con't).

A few more tree shots...the evergreens will stay, although a driveway will be tucked between them at some point.

The Beginning.

We're building a house!  By we, I mean PCW design/build and me.  My hope is to keep friends & family up-to-date on all the happenings through this blog and also to capture the process through print when it's complete.

So, here we go!  Where better to start than the beginning...which is what this photo shows.  This is the kids' first visit to the lot where the house building will soon get underway.  I wanted to show a few photos of the land before any work was started.  It's a gorgeous, wooded piece of property lined with mature evergreens...very quiet, private and magical.  We love it!  We're still in the process of getting permits, etc., but anticipate being able to clear the lot next week.  Then comes staking the house, drive and septic, etc.  After that: the excavation, but that can't be done before we've gotten the permits.  So, hopefully we'll have a hole in the next week or so!
